Description

Apple Pie Bars are the perfect blend of classic apple pie flavors and convenient bar presentation. With a buttery, flaky crust enveloping sweet, spiced apples, these bars offer a delightful dessert that’s easy to make and share. Ideal for gatherings or a cozy night in, these treats capture the essence of fall with every bite. The combination of Granny Smith apples, cinnamon, and nutmeg creates a comforting filling that pairs beautifully with the crisp crust. Enjoy them warm or chilled, topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an extra indulgence.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, very cold and cubed
  • 1/2 cup ice water, plus more if needed
  • 6 medium Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and sliced 1/4-inch thick
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1 tablespoon coarse sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. For the crust, mix flour, sugar, and salt in a bowl. Cut in cold butter until crumbly. Add ice water gradually until dough forms; refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  3. For the filling, combine sliced apples with sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice.
  4. Roll out one dough disk into a rectangle and place it in the baking pan. Add the apple filling on top.
  5. Roll out the second dough disk and cover the filling. Seal edges and cut slits in the top crust.
  6. Brush with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sugar before baking for 45-55 minutes until golden brown.
