- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, very cold and cubed
- 1/2 cup ice water, plus more if needed
- 6 medium Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and sliced 1/4-inch thick
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
- 1 large egg, beaten
- 1 tablespoon coarse sugar
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking pan.
- For the crust, mix flour, sugar, and salt in a bowl. Cut in cold butter until crumbly. Add ice water gradually until dough forms; refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- For the filling, combine sliced apples with sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice.
- Roll out one dough disk into a rectangle and place it in the baking pan. Add the apple filling on top.
- Roll out the second dough disk and cover the filling. Seal edges and cut slits in the top crust.
- Brush with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sugar before baking for 45-55 minutes until golden brown.
