  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder

  • ⅛ teaspoon ground cloves
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, very cold and cut into ½-inch cubes
  • ½ cup canned pumpkin puree
  • ¼ cup cold buttermilk
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, spices, and salt.
  3. Cut in cold butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. In another bowl, mix pumpkin puree and buttermilk; add to dry ingredients and stir gently until combined.
  5. Turn dough onto floured surface and knead lightly; shape into an 8-inch round about 1 inch thick.
  6. Cut into 8 wedges and transfer to the baking sheet.
  7. Bake for 15-18 minutes until golden; cool on a wire rack.
  8. For the glaze, whisk powdered sugar, milk, and cinnamon until smooth; drizzle over cooled scones.
